Yes, Amazon.com almost certainly has the book you're looking for - used, at a much lower price than you'd pay there for the new book. Here is an easy illustrated tutorial for how to buy a used book from Amazon.
There's no need to spend lots of money on new books when you can buy second hand books online, and it's better for the environment too.
First go to Amazon.com on your computer or laptop and search for the book title you want, as in the example below. It'll first come up with the new version of the book in the hopes that you'll buy new. Don't worry, next I will show you how to get the used one.
So first, your screen will look something like this:
Next, click on the bit that says "Other Used and New..." (shown circled in red above). Once you click on that, you'll get the option to choose different formats in the used version, typically this would be paperback or hardcover. Your screen should look like the image below at this point:
So now click on whichever option is cheapest, in this case "Paperback". Usually paperback is always cheaper in used books, except if it's a relatively recently published book which has come out earlier in hardcover but only recently in paperback. In that situation there won't be many paperbacks available in that situation, making them more expensive. But in most cases, paperback is what you want.
After clicking on whatever format is cheapest, it will give you a list of second hand books for that title as you can see in the screenshot below.
Different copies of the book may be in different conditions, such as Acceptable, Good, Very Good, Excellent, etc. Also, book price and shipping will vary depending on which seller is selling that specific copy of the book. You can see this in the picture above. The 2 books you see in this image happen to have the same pricing and same condition (Acceptable) but often you'll get more variation.
Remember to add up the book price and the shipping together when comparing pricing. Used books don't qualify for Prime or even for regular free shipping with minimum order. So the book price + shipping is what you'll pay for your book. Some seller purposely try to trick you by listing a used book for $1.00 to get your attention but then charging $8.00 in shipping. But don't worry, Amazon by default sorts their used books by price + delivery, low to high (as you can see circled in red above), so I recommend starting at the top of that list of Amazon used books and going down to the first book that is in the condition you want.
When you decide on the used book you want, just hit the "Add to Cart" yellow button next to the book. You can see this in the image above as well.
Then you just check out your purchase like any other Amazon order, and the book gets shipped to you as normal. It's easy.
One tip when buying used books on Amazon is to ensure that you are buying the edition that you wanted. This is not typically an issue for most fiction books, but if you're buying non-fiction or textbooks and if the book is available in multiple editions, make sure when you first search for the title that you are getting the correct edition that you wanted.
