Yes, it is certainly possible to buy a single MP3 track or song on Amazon.com without having to buy the whole album. Amazon doesn't make it very clear how to do this, in fact they make it all too easy to accidentally buy an entire album when you had intended just to buy one track, causing you to spend extra money. Don't worry! This tutorial with screenshots makes it clear exactly how to buy just one individual song or track.

This also works for if you want to buy several individual MP3 music tracks from different albums. In that situation you would simply repeat the steps for each track you want to buy. Amazon used to have an MP3 cart where you could put all your tracks until you were ready to check out in one transaction, but sadly they don't have that anymore. So if you want to buy several single tracks, you'll need to do it one at a time in separate transactions, which I realize is frustrating.

This tutorial is intended for a desktop or laptop computer, not for your phone app.

To start, log into Amazon.com on your computer. Then, on the Amazon search bar search for the music you're interested in. Have the category set to "Digital Music", as shown circled in red in the screenshot below:

As you can see above, I was searching for Chopin. Let's look at how to buy just one track from the album. You'll click on your album of interest.

Once you click on your desired album, it will take you to Amazon's music department where the background is dark, so don't worry about the sudden change of background. Your screen will now look something like this:

I want to buy the second track in the album, the track titled "Impromptu No. 4 in C Sharp Minor". At this point, it's really important to click on the 3 dots next to the track you want, and not on "Purchase options".

As tempting as it is to click on "Purchase options", don't do it because that's to buy the whole album. Unless of course you want to buy the whole album! But if you're here to buy just one MP3 track, take heed:

Instead look at the individual track you want and click on the 3 dots at the right of it, as shown in the image below:

When you click those 3 dots, the option to buy just the one MP3 song will come up, like this:

The writing is faint and hard to see, but this particular track costs $1.29. To purchase, go ahead and click on it and follow the prompts. So that's it! That's how to purchase one single MP3 item on Amazon.

If you'd like a bit more detail about how to download and play your music, I have that at the end of a separate tutorial on how to buy MP3 music on Amazon.

You have to be a bit careful when browsing digital music from Amazon.com because they make it too easy to accidentally buy the whole album. But when you follow the steps I've illustrated above, you're able to buy just the one MP3 song or track you wanted.
